Goodbye party for Timote Costa

We took our time to give a good send off party to our student Timote Costa, who left our group after 4 months of research placement with Prof Paunov. He is now going to Italy for a gap year. We had nice party in the Meze restaurant in Beverley. In his project Timote explored the anticancer action of a naturally occurring alkaloid in collaboration with Dr Madden at the Biomedical Sciences department. Prof Paunov acknowledged Timote for his work in the group and wished him all the best in his future career.
Farewell to Margot, Nicolas and Melvin

Our group had a great time at the farewell party of Margot Chaudy, Nicolas Courignon and Melvin Normand who are going back to France after several months of research placement with Prof Paunov. We had nice party in the Chamas restaurant in Beverley, one of the best restaurants in town.
Prof Paunov expressed his appreciation to the students for their hard work and successful completion of their research projects and he wished them all well in their future careers. We also used the opportunity to celebrate the successful PhD viva voce of Dr Ahmed Halbus. Many thanks to Ben Filby who organised the cards and presents. Summer BBQ of Paunov Research Group 2019

Here are some photos from the summer BBQ of our research group. Good timing with the weather as we caught a break between two rainy days. We enjoyed some BBQ food, cakes and refreshments in the garden. Many thanks to Agata for the great cakes and salads and to Marina for the Pavlovas and for entertaining the guests. We also enjoyed catching up with our alumni member Dr Anupam Das, who joined us together with his wife Monika. Osama, as usual, did a few nice photos, which we all appreciate. Everybody had a great time.
Celebration of recent publications success

Our group gathered for a nice meal at the Meze restaurant on Cottingham Road, Hull to celebrate a very successful month for publications from our research group (5 papers in one month!)
Congratulations to all our PhD students, placement students and postdocs who contributed to this success with results, ideas and hard work.
Goodbye party for Dr Anupam Das

This party felt like the end of an era. We celebrated the departure of Dr Anupam Das from our research group with a great dinner party at Chamas, Beverley. Anupam has been a member of Paunov’s research group for almost 7 years, first 3 years as a PhD student and then doing two post-docs, funded by an industrial sponsor and CRUK over the last 4 years. He did a lot of work on biomaterials, capillary suspension formulations, as well as bioimprinting of cancer cells. We were also joined by Dr Horozov and PhD students from his and prof Binks’s research groups who have known Anupam for many years.
Prof Paunov used the opportunity to thank Anupam for his contribution to the research group and for his hard work and dedication. We are going to miss him. Anupam is starting a new job as a senior research scientist at Reckitt Benckiser in Hull. All of us wished him well in his future career.

Farewell to Perrine, Anna, Laurine, Marie, Patricia and Sébastien

Our group had a great time at the farewell party of Perrine Remaud, Anna Folberth, Laurine Raimond and Marie Pelle who are going back to ENSCR, France after 4 month research placement. Sébastien Dominici and Patricia Sinnappu will follow in two weeks back to ESCOM, France. BTW, the Indian food at the Bengal Pride restaurant in Hull was really good. Special thanks to the chief.
Prof Paunov used the opportunity to thank the students for the successful completion of their research projects and for their hard work and dedication. We wish them all well in their future careers. Thanks to Anupam, who did a great job in picking the restaurant and ordering branded mugs for the students. Also, thanks to Osama for the nice photos.
Sevde Celik farewell party

Our research group gathered at Da Gianni Gusto restaurant in Hull where we enjoyed some very tasty Italian food. It was also a farewell party for our visiting student Sevde Celik who will be leaving our research group soon to return back to URCA (France) after 6 months of research placement. Sevde worked on a novel method for preparation of cell spheroids for tissue engineering applications. We used the opportunity to thank her for the hard work and contribution to our project and wished her well in her future career. Also, congrats to Anupam for the great choice of restaurant and to Osama for the nice photos.

We finally managed to catch a break with the unpredictable British weather and organised our summer group BBQ. The timing was perfect with the recent heat wave and we enjoyed some BBQ food, cakes and drinks in the garden. Christmas holiday meal and farewell to Ben and Jevan

Our group gathered at the Tapasya restaurant for an early Christmas holiday party and to wish farewell to Dr Ben Thompson and Jevan Medlock who will be leaving us soon to take their new jobs. We were joined by Dr Tommy Horozov and Khaled Althubeiti. Most of us enjoyed the fabulous roast rack of lamb that they prepare at this place. We celebrated the successful year and also used the occasion to thank Ben and Jevan for their hard work and contribution to our group. Good luck in your new positions and keep in touch!

Hamza Al-Shehri Farewell Party

To celebrate the recent successful PhD viva of Hamza Al-Shehri, our research group gathered for dinner in the Meze Bar & Restaurant. We all wished a farewell to Hazma who will soon go back to his home country for a Post-Doctoral position. We also welcomed our new PhD student Ahmed Al-Mamoori who joined Paunov Research Group in September 2015.
